Our First Webinar: By Rise’ Carter

NSI hosted our first Illusion Soak-Off Gel webinar.

We conducted several dress rehearsals in the days prior to the webinar.  The day of was little scary hairy in the beginning as we had some technical complications, which unnerved us temporarily.   Anyone who knows me is aware that I consider myself computer challenged and panic at the first sign of a problem.  Jessie, our Sales and Marketing Coordinator is very proficient at the computer, so to see her panic, sent me into near frenzy.

We were already logged in and had about 30-40 of our distributors worldwide staring and listening to us via our webcams.

In case you don’t know what a webinar is (I had never heard of one until Jessie mentioned them), it is similar to web conferencing and is used to conduct live meetings or presentations via the Internet.

In a web conference/webinar, each participant sits at his or her own computer and is connected to other participants via the internet. This can be either a downloaded application on each of the attendees’ computers or a web-based application where the attendees access the meeting by clicking on a link distributed by e-mail.  Our meeting invitation was sent a month in advance and then periodically after that, to give everyone a chance to register.

It is typically one-way, from the presenter (me) and the producer (Jessie) to the audience, with audience interaction through live chat.  Questions come in on a chat, Jessie repeats the question so everyone can hear, and then we verbally answer.   Cool, huh?  So, a webinar can be collaborative and include polling and question & answer sessions to allow full participation between the audience and the presenter. The audience can sit in their pajamas, and we’re sure some did.  A 10:00 am webinar means 2:00 am for our distributor in Australia (who, believe it or not, attended!)

It lasted for about an hour and had such rave reviews…ok, maybe not rave, but certainly positive feedback.  We hosted another one the following week for our distributors who couldn’t attend the first one.  That one went perfectly!

This is a great way for interaction and learning from your home or office.  Stay tuned, we are going to do another Illusion webinar and open it to nail technicians.  And that is just the beginning…
