Personal Upkeep: By Erin Snyder Dixon

In the salon environment, we are always paying attention to our appearance, the maintenance in the salon, etc.

Today, I was brushing my teeth and something dawned on me that perhaps we should be more vigilant in our own maintenance.

I’m always hearing from friends that they don’t have time to floss their teeth. We know that skipping floss can lead to cavities, but it can also lead to heart disease. So, by not flossing we are wasting future time. Think of all the work you would miss if you cave to go get dental work that could have been avoided. What about the trips to a specialist to check out your heart? Cha ching, baby. It can add up fast. So now you’ve missed time from work, and you’re broke from dental bills.

Would you do the same thing to the equipment in the salon? Some do. I end up on the phone with techs that have forgone changing the UV bulbs. Service breakdown happens, and the client isn’t happy. Again, lack of maintenance costs plenty.

What maintenance are you skipping in your personal lives? How about the salon? We cannot be a well oiled machine if the parts are weak, gone, or broken.

So, let’s take really good care of ourselves and our business so we can perform at the highest level.

I’ll be better about it if you will!
