Where Your Nail Skills Can Take You: By Jessie Burkhardt

When you decided to become a nail technician, where did you see yourself in five to ten years?  Probably, you saw yourself as a successful technician with a fulfilling career and a full book of loyal clients.  Maybe, you even envisioned yourself owning your own salon.  Both are admirable goals; but did you ever imagine traveling the world (on someone else’s dime) and becoming an authority on nails, respected by the entire industry?  Why not?  With hard work and dedication, your nail skills can take you there.  Here’s a perfect example:

Denise Wright is an NSI Educator, residing in the United Kingdom, where she owns her own salon (among her many responsibilities).  I asked her recently, “What have you been up to?” Here was her response:

“Last month I was busy training competitors both in the UK and abroad for Nail Olympics in London.  I’m actually working on a new competition technique that will make smile line creation easier.  When I did competition training in Budapest, this technique was really well received.

Last weekend I ran the Professional Beauty Magazine competition in Ireland.  The Manchester competition on 15th and 16th is next.

I have a photo shoot booked for Habia on October 31st. They set the educational standards for the UK beauty industry. On a photo shoot, many times you do not know the theme until the day of and you have to adapt and fit in with the hair and fashion teams around you.  It challenges me creatively, but it’s what I love about photo shoots.

I am also launching a new competition backed by a major magazine that can be easily accessed worldwide…”

Phew….I got tired just reading about all she is doing! After hearing all of that, I want to repeat my question.  Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?  Are you maxing out the potential of your nail skills?
