The Gel Grow-Out Program

The Gel Grow-Out Program is intended as a means of safely removing gel enhancements for those clients wishing to move to a natural nail-care regimen.

By: Mandy Rainford-Jones

The Gel Growout Program allows for the gradual removal of gel over an eight to 10 week period with little risk of damaging the nail-plate by over-filing.

The benefit for the nail technician is that contact is maintained with the client at bi-weekly intervals for as long as it takes to grow out the gel. Also, the technician’s professional reputation is enhanced.

For the client, she knows she is having her enhancements professionally removed with little or no damage to her nail plate, while also maintaining well-manicured nails.

The procedure is simple and should take no more than 10 to 15 minutes:

1.)    Shape the free edge of the enhancement with an Endurance 180/180 Grit File.

2.)    Gently buff the gel to blend it with the new growth on the natural nail plate with a Lavender Block Buffer.

3.)    Apply nail strengthening treatment to the new growth.

4.)    Apply your client’s choice of nail enamel according to the manufacturer’s directions.

By the end of ten weeks (and often even sooner) all the gel should have been removed and you will have a natural-nail care client with healthy nails and a positive image of your professionalism. We recommend clients to have a full spa manicure at the end of their grow-out period.  They don’t need it, but should feel they deserve it!
